Tulsa firefighters put out a fire that destroyed a west Tulsa home. Firefighters got the fire out quickly despite the challenging gusts of wind Sunday morning, December 11, 2016.
The fire started in a back bedroom. The back of the house is badly damaged and there is smoke damage throughout, authorities said.
When Tulsa firefighters got on scene around 5 a.m. they were afraid family members might be home. Firefighters went inside to search the home and didn't find anyone.
The landlord says a woman and her five children have lived there for about two years, but there was no car in the garage Sunday morning. We know a dog made it out and a neighbor plans to take care of him for now.
District Greta Hurt says it started in the bedroom which is rather odd.
"There could have been a space heater, there could have been a number of things, but a lot of times you don't look for a bedroom for a likely place for a fire to occur," she said. Fires are more likely to start in a room that has a direct source of fire like a stove.
A dog made it out of the house and a neighbor is planning to take care of it for now. Fire investigators are working to determine a cause, but they don't suspect foul play.
