The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a Centralia firefighter struck by a car in Nowata County Thursday afternoon was listed in good condition at a Tulsa hospital.

Troopers said the incident happened at 4:30 p.m. on Highway 60 about nine miles east of Nowata. They said David Hindman, 59, of Lenapah was headed west in a 2001 Mazda Miata when he drove into heavy smoke and struck Jeffery Mueller, 48, of Vinita.

The OHP says Mueller was unraveling a fire hose from a fire truck parked on the side of the highway with its emergency lights on at the time. A medical helicopter took him to a Tulsa hospital with a leg injury.

Craig County Emergency Management said Mueller's leg is broken in three places and he is having surgery Friday.
