ConocoPhillips is laying off 10 percent of its workforce - letting go 1,800 workers - and some who work at the company’s Bartlesville location will be impacted.

Employees said no announcement was made Tuesday regarding layoffs, but that doesn't mean it won't happen.

ConocoPhillips released a statement saying, in part, "While Bartlesville will be impacted [by the layoffs] we do not have any specifics beyond that."

In Bartlesville, 1,700 people work for ConocoPhillips, but the company has not said how many employees, if any, could be let go.

Bartlesville Chamber of Commerce President Sherri Wilt said she hasn't heard anything, but said, while losing jobs at ConocoPhillips would be a big blow, Bartlesville is diversifying its economy.

Jyme Felix's mother retired from ConocoPhillips, and her aunt works there now and has been there for 30 years. Felix said she worries about her aunt's job security.

"ConocoPhillips is such a huge company here in Bartlesville. I mean, that's like the main, largest company that's here and, so yes, it would impact greatly here," Felix said.

The chamber president said layoffs happen in the oil and gas industry, and it wouldn't be a new experience for Bartlesville.

ConocoPhillips CEO Ryan Lance will be in Bartlesville on September 17, speaking at a Chamber Forum Series.
