Officers are looking for the person who drove away from a deadly motorcycle crash on the Muskogee Turnpike.

A motorcycle rider hit a deer, but then he was hit by a car whose driver left the scene around 9:45 Sunday night.

There are no lights on the section of road where the rider was hit, so it was dark on the road when the chain reaction started.

The accident scene was a straight stretch of turnpike, in the westbound lanes of the Muskogee Turnpike.

Five miles outside of Broken Arrow, near Coweta, a deer ran across the road and was hit by a motorcycle. The driver, 39-year-old Jason Ashlock was thrown off and then run over by another vehicle.

Clint Baker didn't see the accident just a few cars in front of him, but he stopped when he saw the victim out in the road.

“There was Jason in the road, and then in front of him was his motorcycle in the left lane, and then in front of that there was a truck, if my memory serves me right, it was a black flatbed, type tow truck and it had lights on as it was driving away,” Baker said.

The highway patrol is looking for whoever was driving the vehicle that ran over Ashlock to question them about leaving the scene.

Baker said it was dark, but he doubts anyone could mistake what happened.

"They had to have seen him hit the deer and they had to have seen the bike wreck because there was debris of the bike, so you know they had to have seen it," he said.

Despite what happened, Ashlock was alive when Baker reached him.

"I can't get it out of my head, my wife and I hardly slept at all last night," Baker said.

He's now trying to cope with what he saw and wishing he could have done more to help.

"I knelt down to him and I had my hand on his shoulder and I told him that he needed to stay put and he asked why and I said, ‘well you've hit a deer, you need to stay put so the ambulance can check you out when they get here,'" he said.

Ashlock died shortly afterward at the hospital.

The highway patrol wants to talk with the driver who left the scene, or anyone with information about who it might have been.

The accident was just before 10:00 Sunday night, on the Muskogee Turnpike coming into Broken Arrow.
