After a 1-5 start to the 2013 season, the Tulsa Drillers were excited to come home and play in front of a partisan crowd in Tulsa.
The Drillers played excited as well, pounding out 11 hits in a 6-2 win over San Antonio in front of 7,34 fans at ONEOK Field.
Joe Gardner picked up the win in relief for Tulsa, while San Antonio starter Jose De Paula took the lost for the Missions.
The Drillers got things started right out of the gate, as Kent Matthes hit a home run in the bottom of the first inning to stake Tulsa to a 1-0 lead.
The lead didn't last long, as San Antonio tied the score in the top of the second on a solo shot from Tommy Medica. The Missions added a run in the second when Evertt Williams singled to score Reymond Fuentes, who reached base thanks to a Rafael Ortega fielding error in center field.
Tulsa regained the lead by scoring a run in both the fifth and the sixth innings before putting the game away in the eighth inning.
Jayson Langfels singled to score Angelys Nina before Kiel Roling doubled to left to drive in two more runs to give the Drillers a 6-2 lead.
San Antonio put runners on second and third with one out, but Isaiah Froneberger got the last two outs for Tulsa to strand the runners and end the game.
