Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett took a swing at protecting local families Tuesday. The city broke ground on a new Family Safety Center that will be located inside the police department headquarters downtown.
The goal is to provide one-stop assistance for domestic violence victims.
Construction is expected to be complete in September, but help is still available now.
"Currently, the family safety center is open at 31st and Harvard, and people can just walk in there," said Tulsa Assistant District Attorney Meredith Stanton. "They can make a police report, get an emergency protective order that day."
Stanton said a recent grant from the U.S. Department of Justice will help fund a high-risk team to identify the most violent offenders.
