The Tulsa Fire Department says a lightning strike may have ignited a pile of old tires in a landfill near U.S. Highway 169 and 46th Street North Monday evening.
Firefighters got the call just before 6:45 p.m.
From our SKYCAM network, huge billows of black smoke could be seen pouring from the landfill late Monday evening. News On 6 received calls of people seeing and smelling the smoke from as far away as Collinsville.
Tulsa Fire says firefighters strung out a quarter mile of fire hose in order to reach the flames and so far, have used over a thousand gallons of foam to try and smother the fire.
