TULSA, Oklahoma -- Voting is already underway in the City of Tulsa primary election.
Voters are casting in-person absentee ballots at the Tulsa County Election Board Office at 555 North Denver since Friday.
"In-person absentee voters fill out an application form when they get to the office. They are not required to give a reason for voting absentee," Tulsa County Election Board Secretary Patty Bryant said. "They are required to swear that they have not voted a regular mail absentee ballot and that they will not vote at their polling place on election day."
In-person absentee voting is open Monday to 6 p.m.
Bryant says the Absentee Voting Board verifies a voter's registration information, checks the voter's proof of identity, then issues the voter's ballot. The voter marks the ballot in a voting booth and then puts it in the voting device.
"It is very much like voting at a precinct polling place," Patty Bryant said. City of Tulsa primary election is City Council District 1 (Democrat Primary only); Council Districts 2, 5, 6, 8 and 9 (Republican Primary only); and Council Districts 3, 4 and 7 (Republican and Democrat Primaries).
The actual primary election is Tuesday, September 13, 2011.
