NORMAN, Oklahoma – The Oklahoma women’s basketball team trailed from wire to wire on the way to a 75-57 loss to the Texas Lady Longhorns Wednesday.
Texas (14-6, 4-3) started the game on an 8-2 run, and the Sooners (15-6, 5-3) struggled on the offensive end all night. OU managed to remain close for much of the first half, but Texas went on a late run to take a 33-22 lead into halftime.
OU shot just 30 percent from the floor in the first half, and only three Sooners – Amanda Thompson, Danielle Robinson and Nyeshia Stevenson – recorded any points.
The Sooners seemed to fix their offensive woes as the second half began, sparking an 11-2 run to cut Texas’ lead to two. However, Texas went on a 12-0 run moments later to build a lead the Sooners could not erase.
Texas extended its lead as the Sooners failed to get any consistent scoring and could not stop Ashleigh Fontenette or Brittainey Raven. Fontenette and Raven combined to score 38 points, and Fontenette alone scored 15 in the second half.
Amanda Thompson led OU with 17 points, and Danielle Robinson added 16. No other Sooners scored more than eight points.
The Sooners came into the night having won four of their previous five games, and the 18-point loss is their second-worst of the season. They will try to get back on the right track at 2 p.m. Saturday against Oklahoma State.
