TULSA, Oklahoma -- Tulsa commuters slipped and slid their way through the downtown intersection of 11th Street and Elgin Avenue Thursday morning. The intersection goes up a slight hill in front of the Mazzio's and Lyons Indian Store – just enough of an incline to cause trouble for drivers who had to stop for the light.

The sound of spinning wheels was heard until city crews could get sand to the intersection.

A driver traveling southbound on Mingo at 85th Street South lost control in the ice and snow. The vehicle slid off the roadway and into a tree, flipping over on its side.

Tulsa police, fire and ambulance services responded to the scene. The driver did not appear to have any significant injuries, and no other vehicles were involved.

An earlier crash occurred around midnight on the Broken Arrow Expressway near Mingo. Tulsa Police say a Porsche was headed east on the Broken Arrow Expressway when the driver lost control because of the slick roads and started sliding sideways.

The vehicle was hit by another vehicle heading east.  The passengers inside the Porsche were unharmed.
