TULSA, Oklahoma -- A Tulsa pediatrician is charged with sexually assaulting a patient.
Dr. Richard Irwin is facing several felony charges including rape and indecent exposure. Dr. Irwin, a long-time Tulsa pediatrician, is accused of assaulting one of his patients, a 33-year-old autistic man.
Detectives say the assault happened during a doctor's appointment back in July. They say the victim, who lives in a group home, reported the incident to his case worker.
Dr. Irwin works for the Tulsa Developmental Pediatrics, a center for family psychology. According to the center's website, Irwin specializes in evaluating and treating patients with learning disabilities, autism, obsessive-compulsive disorders and other behavioral issues.
News On 6 reporter Ashli Sims did some checking and Irwin has been a licensed medical doctor in Oklahoma since 1980. He doesn't have a disciplinary history with the state medical board.
A phone call to his attorney's office was not returned.
