TULSA, OK -- The silence of the night in Tulsa is shattered by gunfire after a homeowner surprises a burglary suspect.

Tulsa Police were called to a home in the 700 block of North Florence at 1:30 a.m. Friday.

The homeowner heard a noise coming from the back of his house.  When he looked out the back door, he saw a man trying to pry it open with a knife.

The homeowner told Tulsa Police that he feared for his life and the lives of his girlfriend and child.  He told officers, he then grabbed a rifle, opened the back door and fired one shot at the suspect.

The suspect ran off and despite a search from the ground and air by Tulsa Police, the suspect was not located.

Police officers did find a knife that had been left at the back door.
