MOUNDS, OK -- The Mounds community broke ground on a new start Thursday. Fire destroyed much of the elementary school last October.
On Thursday, the community gathered to celebrate a fresh beginning and check out plans for the new building. It includes a gym, media center and a storm shelter.
While tragic, the school's principal says something good did come from the fire.
"It really has given up hope to go forward and be excited. One thing, it did bring us very together. The community is a lot closer now," said Asst. Superintendent & Elementary Principal Yvette Britt.
There's no word on when the new school will be complete.
