CHECOTAH, Okla. (AP) A tied election for city clerk will likely be settled in a random drawing of a name, election officials say.
Shirley Fox, the incumbent, and Amanda Hogan, an employee in the clerks office, each received 451 votes in Tuesday's municipal election.
Unless one of them files a petition for recount or alleging voting irregularities by a 5 p.m. Friday deadline, the election board will ask the district judge to set a time for a drawing to determine the winner, according to election rules.
Both Fox and Hogan said Wednesday they have not considered challenging the election results and will wait for the winner to be determined by the drawing.
"I never, in my wildest imagination, expected a tie," Hogan said. "In fact, I never even thought about that. I thought it would be win or lose."
She said she is ready to accept the drawing's results.
"They'll draw names and whatever will be, will be," she said.
