OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The Oklahoma Trucking Association is asking trucking groups nationwide for money to fight a proposed increase in gas and diesel taxes.

Voters will decide September 13th whether to raise the tax on gasoline by five cents per gallon and the tax on diesel by eight cents with the money to be used for road and bridge repairs.

The plan is being pushed by the group Oklahomans for Safe Bridges and Roads which says it has already raised more than $1-million, primarily from contractors and businesses involved in highway construction.

Trucking Association director Dan Case says he's already getting donations from trucking groups nationwide and that the state Farm Bureau and the Oklahoma Petroleum Marketers Association are joining his group.
