It may not be a year you want to remember, but 2020 is one you certainly will never forget.

News 9’s look back at the second half of 2020 pick up as Oklahoma City joined cities across the country in protest following the police killing of George Floyd in Minnesota.

Police said on May 30 that a peaceful protest turned violent as agitators threw rocks, bottles and glass at police. Officers responded with flash-bangs and tear gas.

A second day of protests begin with a massive peaceful gathering in northeast Oklahoma City. The crowd walked to the State Capitol and then to Oklahoma City police headquarters.

As night fell, the protest again went south.

Police fired tear gas as Oklahoma City mayor David Holt implemented a curfew for downtown Oklahoma City.

In May, the United States Supreme Court ruled a large chunk of Eastern Oklahoma remains under native American jurisdiction.

On the morning of Thursday, Sept. 24, a northeast Oklahoma City family’s life was changed forever.

The spark from a coffee pot ignited a propane explosion, leveling the Maguire family’s home. Fourteen-year-old Berklee Maguire was killed while three others were seriously injured.

An unusually early October ice storm crippled Oklahoma. Many were without electricity for 11 days. It’s the biggest power outage in OG&E History.

State Senator Stephanie Bice beat the state's lone democrat, Kendra Horn, in a congressional race. Republicans also picked up five seats in the state house.
