Friday, the recent heavy rain has washed out part of a busy road in Skiatook, near Hominy Creek. The county closed North 52nd West Avenue as crews work to find a fix.

The family who lives next door to the washed-out road said the erosion is continuing to get worse. “It’s just going to keep coming this way now. Right at us it won’t be long and this will be gone too… What do you do," said Adam Anglin.

Anglin said his main concern is the cliff on the side and behind his house which's been growing steeper. “It’s extremely dangerous. I’ve got a four-year-old and I built a fence around my property after I noticed that this was starting to erode away and I didn’t want him getting around any of this and now here we are," said Anglin. He said the erosion has gotten worse since the flooding of 2019 and he's been concerned about the road in front of his house.

“It’s been washing this out for some time and with the amounts of water that they’ve been putting out it just really washed out the bottom of it. The top can’t stay so it just dropped off," said Steve Talburt.

County Commissioner Steve Talburt said he expects more pieces of the road to fall into the creek as the Army Corps of Engineers continues to release more water from Skiatook Lake. He said the repairs for the road are going to be costly. “We have a really good relationship with the tribe, with ODOT. There are some grants that are out there for emergency-type things and we’ve been on the phone with them and they’re willing to do what they can to help us," said Commissioner Talburt.
