A woman is devastated after finding out her storage unit in Muskogee was ransacked. Of all the things they stole, the only thing that matters is her father-in-law's ashes.

Sandy Floyd rented the unit to store some things before her move to Indiana. She couldn't believe it when she was told someone had broken the lock and gotten inside.

Sandy Floyd was very close to her father-in-law, Ervin. Sandy has been married to her husband 52 years. Sandy’s dad died at a young age, so Ervin was like a father to her.

“He passed away four years ago," Sandy said. "He was an amazing man-- retired from the Air Force.”

Sandy and her husband lived in Muskogee for 13 years and last year, decided they wanted to move to Indiana to be close to their son and grandkids.

She rented a U-Haul storage unit and filled it with her things until she could find a new home.

“We moved everything in the unit," Sandy said. "It was packed full.”

But in February, Sandy got a call someone had broken into her unit.

“The lock was cut, that's how it was discovered," said Officer Lynn Hamlin.

Muskogee police officer Lynn Hamlin said another unit was also burglarized. “It was a horrible experience," Sandy said. "So violated.”

Many things were taken, like electronics and jewelry. But then she realized Ervin’s ashes were also taken.

“They can have everything else," said Sandy. "Just return the ashes-- you can't replace him.”

Hamlin said officers are investigating and she’s devastated for Sandy.

"The most important thing are those ashes, the two urns. Her plea as well as ours is whoever took them, just leave them somewhere," Hamlin said.

“I’m not a vengeful person, and whoever it was maybe needed the things, but we need those [urns]," Sandy said.

Police say if someone knows where the ashes are or has any information on the burglaries, call their anonymous tip line at 918-682-2677.
