People who love racing meet once a month at the Golden Corral at 21st and Memorial.
And every year, they turn one of those meetings into a toy drive for a local charity.
Lisa Bain is passionate about delivering support to those who need it most.
"When you serve people and are able to make a difference in the community, and you serve the community on this level, it's just health to your bones. It brings life into you," she said.
But at one point in time, life was being taken from Lisa and her loved ones.
"It was the day my mom was diagnosed with stage four ovarian cancer,” said Lisa. “She was given about five months, and on that same day, I had a doctor tell me to throw out my running shoes and call it a day; you're probably not going to be walking in six months."
Instead of worrying about her diagnosis, Lisa chose to focus her energy on helping others.
With the help of Shane Carson and the Dirt Track Legends Group, she collected all sorts of gifts for their annual toy drive.
"Well, I just felt like that we were the lucky ones, so now we are wanting to give back to them because we feel like they were the ones who made it all happen for us," Shane said.
Lisa says the toys will be put into backpacks that will go to help children in rural areas.
"We give backpacks to first responders who are in rural communities, whether it's fire or police, and we have a backpack filled with items that bring comfort to a child in crisis,” Lisa said. “If they make a call about a child facing a traumatic situation, there's clothes, there's coloring books, there's activities, a snack bag, there's hygiene items. Things that are really going to help."
With the help of so many, including Santa, Lisa will use her one life to help the lives of others.
