A metro man was arrested on Tuesday and booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center after allegedly leaving the scene of a deadly hit-and-run crash in southeast Oklahoma City.

Police said 58-year-old Carlos Lewis was riding a bicycle when he was hit and thrown off the bike. The victim was left on the road with extensive injuries. Police said Lewis died only minutes after he was transported to a local hospital.

A witness living near Southeast 15th Street and High Avenue called police after hearing a loud "bam" Tuesday night. Police said that noise was 39-year-old Elias Estrada hitting the victim who was riding a bicycle.

“The bicyclist was lying there in the roadway,” said Sgt. Dillon Quirk, Oklahoma City Police Department. “The vehicle had fled the scene.”

Police said Lewis had two compound fractures to each leg and was unconscious. He did not survive the injuries.

The witness described Estrada's car and told officers he was driving recklessly through her neighborhood before the crash.

“They were given information that a white Hummer or a white SUV had fled the scene,” said Quirk.

While officers were investigating the deadly hit-and-run crash, two more calls came in describing the driver of a white Hummer. According to an arrest affidavit, Estrada threatened a woman only blocks from the crash scene. The woman told officers the driver of a white Hummer stopped in front of her home and for unknown reasons yelled threats at her and her boyfriend. Moments later another resident in the area flagged down officers to report a white Hummer drove through a fence.

Police were eventually led to a southeast Oklahoma City home where they found the white Hummer and the suspect. Police said Estrada admitted he was driving the SUV. "The driver believed to be in the collision was arrested,” said Quirk.

Estrada was booked into jail for leaving the scene of a fatal crash and driving without a valid license. Police said the SUV involved in the deadly hit-and-run belonged to the suspect's relative.
