Severe Storms Possible Across Tulsa Area

TULSA, OK -- There's a high likelihood of thunderstorms occurring late Monday night and early Tuesday. News On 6 Meteorologist Alan Crone says some thunderstorms will be strong to severe.

A few scattered storms will be possible between 4 p.m. and sunset across western or central Oklahoma. Thunderstorms will attempt to form across northeastern Oklahoma from 10 p.m. to after midnight with some of the storms being severe.

Wind speeds and directions at different levels would promote rotating updrafts that would increase the hail production of these storms.

Crone says a tornado threat may exist.

The thunderstorms should eventually form a line of thunderstorms or line segments of storms as a cold front moves over the area early Tuesday morning. Some thunderstorms seem likely Tuesday morning across the area.

After a quiet Tuesday evening and Wednesday, another strong-looking upper level system is expected to form across the southern Plains by Thursday. This should result in another round of storms either Thursday night or Friday morning and some may also be strong to severe.
