Horses From Tulsa's Disbanded Mounted Patrol Get New Homes, Missions

TULSA, OK -- Eight members of Tulsa Police's Mounted Patrol Unit have new homes.

Bob, Jack, Otis, Buddy, Ned, Amigo, Willie and Roscoe got permanent homes on Tuesday.

They are the horses that were part of the Tulsa Police mounted patrol unit that was disbanded because of budget cuts earlier this year.

Hillcrest Medical Center bought the horses, then worked with the Tulsa Community Foundation to find area non-profit groups that could use them in therapy programs.

Tami Wagman of the Horse Adoption Committee said, "They did tons of great work for the Tulsa Police Department and now they're moving to their new mission, which are assisting children and adults in very difficult times in their lives."

The five non-profits also received some money to help with the costs of caring for the horses.
