Marshall Cruises Past Golden Hurricane

The Golden Hurricane's offense stalled in the second half and allowed the Thundering Herd to build a sizeable lead.

The Golden Hurricane led early, but Marshall claimed the lead with seven minutes left to play in the first half and cruised to a 63-45 win Sunday, snapping Tulsa's three-game win streak in the process.

TU jumped out to a 6-2 lead, but the Thundering Herd scored on back-to-back possessions to tie the game less than four minutes into the game.

Trailing 12-8, Leandra King hit a layup at the 9:42 mark that would spark the run to give Marshall the lead. Two minutes later, Rashedah Henriques knocked down a pair of free throws to give the Golden Hurricane a 13-12 lead.

Marshall scored six more unanswered, all three layups, to take a 19-12 lead with just four minutes left in the half. Erica Woods knocked down a pair of free throws for the Thundering Herd with six seconds left in the half to put Marshall back up six points, heading into the locker room leading 27-21.

The Thundering Herd opened the second half on a 14-2 run, capped off by a three-pointer from Shay Weaver, to take a 41-23 less than seven minutes into the half and cruised to the win.

Lateidra Elliott finished with a game-high 14 points and was the only Marshall player to finish in double-figures, with Erica Woods turning in the second-highest scoring total with nine.

Taylor Hooker led the charge for Tulsa, scoring 11 points, while Jessica McQuin added in 10, but no other Golden Hurricane player finished with more than six points.

Tulsa's opportunity to restart its win streak will come at 8 p.m. Thursday in El Paso, Texas against the UTEP Miners.
