Sunday is looking mighty fine, but another storm system will be approaching later Monday.

The drizzle and light rain that has been off and on during the day today will be gradually ending from the NW to the SE as we go through the evening and overnight hours followed by clearing skies for Sunday morning. Sunday should have lots of sunshine and light NE winds returning to a more SE direction during the course of the day. Temperatures will start off near the freezing mark, but should rebound well into the 50s by afternoon.

Enjoy the sunshine as it will not hang around for very long with clouds returning by early Monday morning and mostly cloudy skies for much of the day Monday. That will be followed by another chance of rain and possibly some thunder late Monday and Monday night as a rapidly moving storm system will be moving across the state by then. The rain chances will be increasing to 60% by early Monday night as a cool front will also be pushing across the state by then. Notice the QPF map on the right which suggests this will not be a big rainmaker, although there will likely be some locally heavier amounts from any thundershowers that can form. Despite the strength of the winds, low level moisture and instability will be limited when the front arrives that night. So, although some thunder is expected this does not currently look to be a severe weather situation for the Monday evening/night time frame.

During the day Monday, we can expect strong southerly winds to be developing and the winds together with the clouds should result in a very mild day with morning lows near 40 and daytime highs near 60.

Since this is a Pacific system, our winds will be more westerly on Tuesday which means dry, mild air for Tuesday and Wednesday and lots of sunshine. A stronger cool front should arrive later in the week to bring temperatures closer to normal as we head into the coming weekend. There are still some indications of a more significant cool down early that following week, but the guidance remains inconsistent so it is just something that we will be keeping a close eye on.

In the meantime, stay tuned and check back for updates.
