More than 80 girls, from ages 4 to 14, are spending this week at a cheerleading camp hosted by the varsity cheerleaders at Holland Hall.

The girls donned their Thunder blue on Wednesday to raise the roof and send a special cheer down the turnpike to urge our state's team on its historic run.

"They're so cute and they love being around us and we love teaching them," said Kathlyn Farmer, a varsity cheerleader. And you form bonds with all the kids. It's a lot of fun."

This week's drills took a special turn as the OKC Thunder began a run at the NBA championship.

"Because the Thunder, it's a big game and we were thinking to wear these to help them," said 8-year-old cheerleader, Bridgette Dieterlen.

Sarah Cox is the cheerleading coach at Holland Hall. She says the girls love cheering on their favorite teams, and the sport teaches girls of all ages self confidence.

"Today we all wore Thunder shirts and the colors, and they have their favorite players. And they've been Thundering Up and cheering for them," Cox said. "And they honestly think, last night, the reason they won is because we've been cheering for them."

So, the next time you watch the Thunder, think of the squad from Holland Hall and their fever pitch to bring an NBA title to Oklahoma.
