A six-hour police standoff at a south Tulsa apartment complex ended late Thursday with the arrest of a rape suspect.

Tulsa Police say they got a tip David Childers, 43, was at the London Square Apartments in the 2200 block of East 59th Street.

According to an arrest report, Childers refused to surrender saying "he wouldn't come out alive." The department's Special Operations Team surrounded the building and then used gas to arrest Childers shortly before 11 p.m.

Childers had been out on bond on a number of charges filed in April 2012 including first-degree rape by instrumentation, forcible sodomy, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and kidnapping.

He had been a fugitive since last month when a judge revoked his bond and issued a warrant for his arrest.

Jail records show his next court appearance is set for January 13.
