Cheaper gas prices are boosting holiday sales that initially started off slow.

This past weekend saw a big spike in spending as people spent $42 billion - setting a two-day record.

Tuesday night many Oklahomans were busy doing last-minute shopping.

Osage SkyNews 6 HD flew over a jam-packed Woodland Hills Mall and the never-ending line of cars.

It was a similar story at Tulsa Hills where cars made their way to the stores.

A Nielsen survey shows more than a third of people, like Desiree Jaworski, are using savings from the gas pump on holiday gifts.

"I just went and filled up my tank last night and it was a $30 savings over six months ago and I said, ‘You know, I'm going to go to the mall and spend that $30 on Christmas,” Jaworski said.

Almost half of the people surveyed said they have an extra $25 to $75 a month to spend because of the cheaper gas prices.

Two-thirds of those surveyed, however, also said they feel like the U.S. is still in a recession, despite the fact that it officially ended nearly five years ago.
