ORU Set For Summit League Conference Tournament
TULSA, Oklahoma - The Oral Roberts men's basketball team is a three-seed in the Summit League conference tournament after its 29-point loss in the Rushmore state and suspending its second leading scorer Korey Billbury. ORU won its last two games, which helped them secure the three spot. "I think this team has as much confidence and momentum as we've had since the win against Tulsa [in our] first game of the year,” said head coach Scott Sutton. “I think they're feeling pretty good about themselves, and that's what you need to go win three games in March.”
Billbury's suspension has the team looking somewhat different, but Sutton says players like Bobby Word have stepped up the past couple of games, as well as Obi Emegano, who is already in the top 50 in the nation in points per game and has averaged 30 in his last two floor appearances. "I kept playing my role. I think the guys really helped me; they picked up the extra slack,” said Emegano. “Korey was a great player for us. He left a void, [and] it's tough to fill the things that he does, but I think the guys have done a good job of filling that role."
Without the help of Billbury, Emegano knows he has more responsibility. "He realizes he has to score more. He has to be the leader of this team," stated Sutton.
Emegano stresses, the key to winning the conference is keeping their play at a high level. "I think we've all been playing unselfish and more together. Our team chemistry has been the highest it's been all year and that's what we're looking for."
