Alan Crone's Weather Blog: Warm And Breezy Weekend

Pleasant weather will persist for the next few days including a warm and breezy Saturday before a major storm system will near the state early next week.    This morning’s cold temperatures will be followed by highs in the lower 50s.   We’ll see some lower or mid-70s this weekend.   Storm chances, some severe, may arrive Tuesday with another shot of cold air possible Wednesday.

Temperatures this morning are in the upper 20s and lower 30s across the area with a few clouds located to the northeast of the metro.   A fast moving upper air disturbance is driving some mid-level moisture across part of southwestern Missouri and Northwestern Arkansas where a few flurries may occur this morning.    Our sky should remain mostly clear for most of the day with sunshine and northwest winds around 10 to 20 mph.   The fire danger will remain elevated today despite the recent rainfall. 

Later tonight a surface ridge of high pressure will settle across the area with clear sky and cold air.   Temperatures will be in the 20s Friday morning with highs moving to near the lower 60s by afternoon with sunshine and southwest winds at 10 to 15 mph.

Saturday stronger south to southwest winds will occur with morning lows in the 30s and highs near 74.   Sunday will feature lows in the mid to upper 50s and highs in the mid-70s before a front moves across the area by afternoon or early evening.   A few small showers or sprinkles may occur along or east of highway 69.   The chance will remain less than 20%.  This front will move southward across the Red River Valley Monday before stalling as a powerful upper level low will move into the western U.S.   As the upper feature draws near the region early next week south winds will quickly return.   Low level dew points in the upper 50s and lower 60s will stream northward into northern OK by Tuesday.   A strong surface low will develop to our west and move across the area Tuesday night into Wednesday bringing a chance of storms, some of which may be strong to severe.    The data diverge greatly past the Tuesday and Wednesday time periods.  But the “ trend” in the data suggest another cold day Wednesday with the potential for some precipitation.   More on this later when the data may converge on a reliable solution.
