A few storms could develop this afternoon across northeastern Oklahoma this afternoon but the main threat for severe weather will be later this evening and overnight.
Storms are developing along the Oklahoma Texas Panhandle line and moving northeast. The atmosphere is conducive for severe weather and should allow for these storms to eventually move into eastern Oklahoma. The higher chances for severe weather will again be west of I-35 and across portions of Kansas.
Tornado potential remains low for us in Green Country. Better conditions for tornadic supercells will be across northwestern Oklahoma and into Kansas where a surface low and warm front are positioned.
That doesn't mean we are in the clear. Most likely we will see a few strong to severe storms today with large hail and damaging winds as the primary threat. Several locations are already under flood warnings so added water from these storms will also be a concern in those areas.
As the main system lifts out tonight and tomorrow, we'll see more additional storm chances tomorrow and through our Memorial Day Weekend. Severe storms are more likely across southeastern Oklahoma tomorrow but a very low threat remains here as well.
As far as the weekend, a low isolated threat for storms continues through Sunday and then chances increase for Memorial Day itself. Make sure you have the News On 6 weather app before heading out the lake or other Memorial Day plans. It is important that you receive the latest watches and warnings as well as forecast updates.
