A Tulsa woman has been arrested for child neglect after hospital staff discovered her 3-month-old daughter had alcohol in her system.
According to an arrest report, Monique Bibbs, 36, told police she accidentally gave her baby formula mixed with apple-flavored vodka.
Hospital staff tested the baby's blood-alcohol level, which was 0.19 percent, the report says.
She reportedly told police she went out drinking with a friend on Friday night and filled a water bottle with apple vodka and took it with her to the bar. She claims that when she returned, her friend must have put the water bottle next to the baby's items, so she grabbed it to make 8 oz. of formula the next morning.
"[Bibbs] stated that the baby only drank about 4 oz. of the formula and then refused to drink anymore," the report says. "Bibbs stated that she then tried to burp the baby and that is when she smelled liquor coming from the bottle."
The report says a child crisis detective asked Bibbs if she drove the baby directly to the hospital after feeding the bottle to her.
"Bibbs stated she drove the baby back to her residence where the [baby's] father was across town, asked him for help, then drove back across town to the hospital after he refused to help her," according to the report.
According to investigators, DHS told police Bibbs has an extensive history with their agency and she has a substance abuse problem. Bibbs also reportedly told the detective she would fail a drug test if given one on Saturday.
Tulsa police have not addressed the baby's condition.
