Tulsa Union Teachers Taking Part In Education Rally In OKC
TULSA, Oklahoma - Two buses loaded with teachers from Tulsa Union Public Schools will head to the state Capitol Wednesday to rally for education funding.
One group of Union teachers left Wednesday morning around 7:00. that group will head back around 2:00 p.m. Another group will got to Oklahoma City in the afternoon and stay until the House adjourns for the day.
The Oklahoma House of Representatives voted to adjourn until 3 p.m. Wednesday and the Union Classroom Teachers Association wants to make sure teachers are represented all day long.
For many, Wednesday is the third day to make the trip to talk with lawmakers.
"We're not seeing as much progress as we'd like to hear. Like I said, there's party politics going on that makes it look like a setback, but I think there are conversations going on behind the scenes," Union teacher Brendon Jarvis said.
The teachers are paying for the cost of the transportation. The association says it is charging $5 per rider to help pay for the cost of the bus.
