Hard Hat Tour Of New Downtown Hotel
TULSA, Oklahoma - A new downtown Tulsa hotel will open its doors to the public this fall.
Tulsa will then have more than 2,000 rooms downtown to offer the public at any given time.
Construction crews are hard at work on one of downtown Tulsa’s newest hotels, the 93 room Hotel Indigo. It’s just one of many under construction right now in downtown.
Developer Jeff Hartman explained how Tulsa’s hotel industry caters to a lot of different guests.
“We are looking for a niche guest that will come to Tulsa and experience and explore Tulsa,” said Hartman.
The overall theme will be the Tulsa of the 1920s and 30s, with a rooftop bar, called Roof 66, and a view of downtown.
From Hotel Indigo’s rooftop, you can also see another hotel being built by a different developer just two blocks away.
In fact, five are under construction right now inside the IDL.
Hartman says hotel franchise licenses are bought far in advance and many of these were purchased years ago.
“Once the market and the economy started getting better and banks were starting to lend, we all started at the same time,” stated Hartman. “It is not what we like to do, but we have to take advantage of the times.”
When these projects are completed, there will be close to 2,500 hotel rooms available downtown.
Even with these new hotels, the general manager of Cox Business Center, Kerry Painter, says we still need more – in the form of a full-service convention hotel.
Painter says, “next year we have a soccer tournament and convention at the same time and right now our client is frantic because she doesn’t have enough rooms. That’s a problem.”
There are no specific plans or timelines for a convention hotel.
As for Hotel Indigo, the target date to open is October 1st.
