[UNFILTERED]: OU's Union Planning Board Celebrates 11th Annual Foam Party
NORMAN, Oklahoma - Maddy Pratt felt excited to start a tradition by drowning in a sea of foam.
The sophomore nursing major arrived early before the Union Programing Board kicked off their 11th annual Foam party.
“We got so clean -- covered in soap!” said Pratt. Pratt, who is 5 foot 3 inches, said she got covered in foam from “head to toe.”
Her feet were soaked in dissolved bubbles, and her hair hosted a tiara of suds. Pratt said she regretted not going to the foam party last year.
The UPB kicked off the semester on Friday with its annual foam party on top of the Union parking garage to encourage students to meet new people in a unique setting.
Freshman nursing major Hannah Watson said it is great that the UPB is trying to get freshman out of their dorm rooms to meet new people.
“This is my first actual event, and it’s pretty good,” said Watson.
Graduate Assistant for the UPB Steven Kappen said he helped organize a big part of the foam party. Kappen said the foam party is the first big event during the semester for the UPB.
“We’re trying to do something that isn’t done a lot,” said Kappen.
Kappen added that the unique party helps students meet one another and teaches the returning students tricks like wearing shoes with good grip to make the party a little more fun.
Pratt regrets missing the event last year, and had advice for new students. “Get involved your freshman year,” said Pratt. “Don’t wait until your second semester because it’s super hard to make friends if you don’t get involved.”
The next UPB event will be an outdoor movie on September 14.
