It's a tradition as old as time across newsrooms far and wide, a look back at the top stories of the year gone by.

In our case, we've crunched the numbers from our Google Analytics data and counted all the page views we could count. We also have limited this list to Oklahoma stories, giving you a sense of what the data tells us about the stories most important to you.

No. 1 story: Beggs-area mother kills 2 of her children

The tragic stories of Kayson and Kloee Toliver, shot to death by their mother, was the most viewed story on our website this year. Amy Leanne Hall is accused of first-degree murder and a count of shooting with intent to kill. Authorities said she shot her children in their home in Nuyaka, which is in the Beggs school district.

No. 2 story: The night the lights went out at Rhema

For the first time in nearly 40 years, Rhema was forced to shut off its famous lights display early on the evening on December 1. Broken Arrow Police had to use pepper spray to break up a large fight between teenagers.

No. 3 story: October tornadoes flip cars, cause damage

Weather is always a big story in Oklahoma, and most of us are quite used to the spring routine from March to May. However, the biggest online weather story of the year happened in early October. Most of the damage was in the Oklahoma City metro area.

No. 4 story: Shooting outside pizza parlor injures 2

Breaking news always attracts a lot of page and screen views, as was the case in September when two people were shot outside Incredible Pizza in what police said was likely a drug deal gone wrong.

No. 5 story: Chelsea girl dies after being kicked by horse

An incredibly tragic story from just a couple of weeks ago: 7-year-old Jamey Reed died when she was kicked in the neck by a horse. According to a man who set up a GoFundMe account for the girl's family after the tragedy, it appears the horse just got startled.

"She was in a pen with a horse," he said. "Either the horse got startled, and she got kicked in the side of the neck."

No. 6 story: Netflix tells story of 1980s murder investigations

Some Oklahoma murder cases are now getting attention from viewers around the world. Netflix released a new documentary series late this year called "The Innocent Man," based on John Grisham's book.

No. 7 story: Deadly wreck along I-40 near Okemah

One person was killed and four others were hurt outside of a construction zone along Interstate 40 near Okemah in October. 

The burned wreckage of the van blocked the westbound lanes of I-40. Troopers said the van belonged to the U.S. Department of Energy and had five of their employees aboard. The impact collapsed the front end of the van, but other drivers were able to get the passengers out before it burned.

No. 8 story: Suspect in Kansas killings shoots self in Tulsa

Ben Converse, a man wanted in a Kansas double homicide, is in the hospital shot himself late last week after law enforcement officers closed in on him in Tulsa. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation said they, Tulsa and Broken Arrow Police officers located Converse, and he tried to run. As officers approached him, he turned toward them and shot himself with a handgun, agents said.

No. 9 story: December tornadoes in Cookson

We're not supposed to get severe weather, much less tornadoes, in December. Right? Welcome to 2018. People across Eastern Oklahoma awakened on Dec. 1 to widespread damage left behind by storms and at least one tornado three miles southwest of Cookson in Cherokee County.

No. 10 story: Pittsburg County oil rig explosion kills 5

Searchers recovered all five men who were missing after a January gas rig explosion in Pittsburg County. 

The men were identified as:

  • Matt Smith, 29, of McAlester
  • Parker Waldridge, 60, of Crescent
  • Roger Cunningham, 55, of Seminole
  • Cody Risk, 26, of Wellington, Colorado
  • Josh Ray, 35, of Fort Worth
