Tulsa County Sheriff's Office says a Tulsa man drove a stolen vehicle through a field and onto a walking path trying to avoid arrest. The arresting deputy said he first saw Bishop driving a Chevy Suburban near the 300 block of South 49th West Avenue, just off the Katy Trail. The vehicle had several cracks in the windshield, and the deputy said he tried to stop Bishop in the Dollar General parking lot.
The Suburban took off and went through a field of tall grass until turning eastbound on the Katy bicycling and pedestrian trail, an arrest report states. The deputy said Bishop then drove at a high rate of speed on several city streets, hitting a mailbox then finally a pole at Admiral and 33rd West Avenue.
Bishop ran from the disabled vehicle and was finally stopped in front of a home on 32nd Street, the arrest report states.
The 33-year-old man was booked on complaints of felony possession of a stolen vehicle and eluding (both after a former felony conviction), driving with a suspended license, reckless driving, obstructing an officer, property damage and other traffic complaints.
He bonded out of jail early Thursday morning.
