A Green County business is asking for help in finding a person they say stole nearly $1,000 worth of popcorn and equipment.
Employees at the Corn Popper say the man tried to break in twice.
Manager John Russell says, “I drove into the back and noticed the deadbolt had been jimmied with screwdriver marks and that is what kind of caught my eye."
Russell says nothing was tampered with inside the first time the thief broke in, so he bolted up the doors and left a note on the back door, reading “you didn’t smile, police have you on camera!”
Twenty-five minutes later, when another employee showed up, Russell says they discovered the thief had come back.
"Popcorn all over the floor, popcorn balls, cotton candy spilt over," said Russell.
Russell says he was blown away by how brazen the thief was.
Surveillance video shows the man drive up, get out of his car, and walk up to the front window looking inside.
He drives off after a few minutes, but eventually gets inside the back door.
The video also shows the suspect dragging items like a popcorn machine and cart out of the store.
Russell says he couldn't believe the man took time to fill containers with popcorn, cotton candy, and funnel cake mix before he left.
"He had a sweet tooth. He had a craving and he wanted to fill it," stated Russell. "Tulsa, help us out. Let's catch this guy. He's not too sharp, so I think it might be a little bit easy to catch him."
Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Crimestoppers at 918-596-COPS.
