Oklahoma volunteers are bringing as many as 300 dogs from Houston to Tulsa to provide a safe place for the pets who lost their homes in the flooding.
The Humane Society prepares to welcome dozens of dogs to Tulsa Thursday morning, and the Humane Society's executive director said 62 more dogs are expected to arrive in the Tulsa area around 8 a.m. Thursday.
The Humane Emergency Animal Response Team brought more than 80 dogs and puppies to an emergency shelter in Bixby on Wednesday.
With this second round of animals, some will go to the Bixby shelter while others will be placed with the Tulsa SPCA.
The team went down earlier this week to pick up animals that were in the shelters before the storm to help make room for incoming pets displaced by Harvey.
None of the Texas animals up for adoption and Tulsa is acting as a hub to care for the animals until they can be moved to other shelters across the country.
"We're recommending that people go to Tulsapets.com and check out our wishlist, and monetary donations are always needed because that allows us to buy things that we need right then and also pay for medications that can really add up," said Carrie Suns with the Oklahoma Medical Reserve Corp.
The Humane Society says it does not need any volunteers at this time, however it will always accept donations. To find out more about how you can help, visit their website.
