'License To Educate' Uses Student Art To Raise Awareness

After funding cuts and a historic teacher shortage, the State Department of Education is hoping to raise awareness by elevating student artists in a creative way. 

It's a new push for Oklahoma schools called License To Educate. 

Students from kindergarten to high school can submit designs for a specialty license plate with the hopes of raising money for education.

State Superintendent Joy Hofmeister said the licenses plates likely won't raise a significant amount of money, but they will raise more public support so lawmakers will find a solution before it's too late.

"So, at the end of the day, this is not a problem that is going to remedy itself and it is going to be one where we see a lasting impact for years to come," Hofmeister said. 

Entries the license plates will be taken until September 22, 2017. 

The public will get to vote online and the winner will be announced in November.
