Peeples, 47, was crossing Harvard outside her apartment when she was hit by a stolen car. She was crossing Harvard to visit a friend who lived in apartments across the road when she was hit and killed.
The driver left as Peeples lay dying.
"She was a friendly person, a good person," said family friend and pastor LeRon West.
West lives next door to the family and his children grew up with the woman who was killed.
"Deep, deep hurt. Of course it was sudden, so unexpected," West said.
The morning after the crash police found an SUV with obvious signs of what happened.
Police tracked down the owner who reported it stolen.
They have not identified the driver.
"We pray this person will come forward and we pray this person, that taking a life is enough for a person to come forward and say, 'I'm responsible for what happened,'" he said.
West said the family is coping, but with parents preparing to bury their 47-year-old daughter, it's been hard.
"A lot of tears, and just shock," West said.
Police hope someone has information that can help them find the driver; they said, as of now, they don’t feel like they’re close to an arrest.
