Tulsa Apartment Residents Frustrated By Lack Of Repairs

 Residents at one Tulsa apartment complex are demanding action from their landlords for months of upkeep they say the owners didn't provide.

Tabitha Richardson has lived at Addison Apartments off Admiral and Highway 169 since last December.

"Oh my gosh! Look at this," Richardson said of a problem with her apartment's ceiling.

She said her issues with the complex's maintenance started just one month into her lease. She started finding mice and spiders in her apartment.

"For the mice, they told me to use the scratch pad that you use to clean your skillet and just stuff it in the hole," she said.

Over the next few months Richardson says her apartment's maintenance needs kept piling up. 

"My apartment was leaking in my bathroom, you could smell gas coming from the stove, the fridgerator make noise all night," said Addison Apartments resident Tabitha Richardson.

The health department has responded to complaints at the complex before, but residents say they are getting the same response from apartment managers:

"The company won't pay to have it fixed," Richardson said.

Tabitha said in the past six months, things have gotten worse.

"I'm out of here; I can't do this," she said. "I'm supposed to feel safe where I lay my head and if I don't feel safe, I'm gone."

Richardson pointed out broken boards and broken windows on the exterior of the building and problems with the condition of the apartment playground.

"I won't even let my babies come to this park. There's nails sticking up. There's boards missing," Richardson said. "Do something about it, fix it up."

Richardson isn't the only resident demanding the complex owners make repairs. 

"My kids can't even use the restroom or take a shower without water leaking into my bedroom, into the hallway," said resident Sherita Brown.

While Richardson hopes the apartment management makes needed changes, she has had enough.

"No. I can't do it. I cannot. I'm cool, so I'm about to move around, but I feel sorry for the people that can't," she said.

I reached out to the complex's owner who lives out of state. He did not want to comment on the allegations.
