Oklahoma State starting center Brad Lundblade was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Division I Football first team, it was announced today. A marketing major with a 3.92 grade point average, Lundblade is the only player from a Big 12 school to earn first-team honors this year. He was a second-team selection last season.
Earlier this season, Cowboy football was honored for producing 12 first-team Academic All-Big 12 selections, including Lundblade. OSU's 12 first-team honorees and 19 total honorees trailed only Kansas State among all Big 12 schools. With 12 first-team selections, OSU fell just one shy of the school record of 13 set last season. Additionally, 19 overall selections are the second-most in school history, trailing only the 22 from 2015, meaning that the two best academic years for the Cowboy football have been the last two.
On top of that, 13 Cowboy football players will participate in graduation festivities later this month.
Including Lundblade this year, the Oklahoma State football program has earned 17 Academic All-America honors all-time from CoSIDA, including first-teamers Tom Wolf (1972), Doug Tarrant (1973), Tom Wolf (1974), Joe Avanzini (1977), Kyle Eaton (2002), Billy Bajema (2004) and now Lundblade in 2016.
Oklahoma State will play for a Big 12 championship this Saturday when it faces Oklahoma in Norman.
