A Tulsa man is in jail, accused of stabbing a woman to death Wednesday.
Police say Reginald Lyke stabbed the victim at the Comanche Park Apartments at 36th and North Peoria.
According to the arrest report, a witness told police Lyke went to another apartment after the stabbing, rolled a marijuana cigarette and said he didn't mean to do it and wanted to know if police were after him.
As detectives investigate, children out of school for Fall Break, watch from a playground on the other side of the yellow crime tape.
“All the time I worry about even going outside because you never know what might happen,” said Tulsa resident Amber McDonald.
Tulsa police say Lyke, also known as "Dread," stabbed a woman Wednesday morning in the apartment where she was staying.
Word of the crime spread quickly at Comanche Park.
“A friend of mine came running in and said that she was hurt,” one woman said. “And I said, 'Is she OK?' He said, 'No, there's blood everywhere.' He said she got stabbed.”
The woman, who didn’t want to be identified, is a friend of the victim. She said she works in the medical field and rushed to try to save the woman.
“I told her that I was there and to calm down, it was gonna be okay. That we was getting help,” she said.
But before help could arrive, the victim took her last breath with her friend by her side.
“She was fighting, and I told her to keep hanging on until somebody got there, and then she just moved her hand,” she said. “And she was gone.”
Police said they found Lyke hiding in another apartment on the other side of the complex and arrested him.
Now, friends of the victim ask themselves tough questions.
“I'm having a hard time with that because I keep thinking, 'What if...had somebody came and got me sooner or had I heard anything,' I could have gone over there faster, I could have stopped it,” the woman said.
The arrest report says Lyke knew the victim and admitted to police he was with her before the stabbing but denied any involvement in the crime.
Police have not released the victim's name, but her friend tells us she was in her 20s.
