The Department of Human Services will begin accepting applications Friday for its child care subsidy program.

Department leaders say the enrollment is being lifted about two weeks early so eligible families can get help beginning August 1, before the new school year starts.

The program is funded through a federal Child Care Development grant and state-matching funds.

The director of DHS said, "It was disheartening to have to freeze access to this critical program…After the second revenue failure, we knew we would run out of funds before the end of the fiscal year if we didn't limit the number of people accessing those services."
