Tulsa's PatriotFest Honors Fallen Service Members Over Holiday Weekend

In Oklahoma, organizers with the Route 66 PatriotFest are hoping to put Tulsa on the map as the most patriotic city in America.

This is the second year of the festival that raises money for Folds of Honor and other veterans programs.

The second annual Route 66 PatriotFest celebrated veterans, current military personnel, and honors those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

“It's an opportunity for us to show our national pride," Robert Mullins said.

The festival has nearly doubled in size.

“It’s just overwhelming how great the response has been,” event coordinator Susan Coman said.

Coman says they've added new events year, and the number of classic cars on display has more than doubled -- drawing in visitors from across the state.

“Everything from brand new Stingray to 65 Cobra and even earlier models of vehicles I've seen,” Mullins said.

It’s a major draw for car enthusiasts like Robert and Angela Mullins.

They come to the festival every year from Norman and enjoy showing off their patriotism.

The event also honors active service men and women with a military zone, and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice with the "Remembering our Fallen" exhibit.

The exhibit honors Oklahoma service members killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“People appreciate Memorial Day,” Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett said. “They really understand patriotism, they want to wave the flags and they want to come out and celebrate America."
