The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says it has seen an increase in the number of gun carry license applications over past couple of months.

The OSBI says in the last week of November 2015, it received 604 applications. Two months later, the number of applications more than doubled to 1,434.

The application does not ask for a reason for applying for a license, but the OSBI says during that time period, several sheriff's offices began waiving their fingerprinting fees and are encouraging residents to apply for a license.

The OSBI says the number of applications have been going up on a weekly basis.

The agency expects once the numbers from the week of February 8 are tabulated, the number of applications will top 1,500.

Gun carry applications received by OSBI:

November 30 – 604

December 7 – 824

December 14 – 702

December 21 – 900

December 28 – 744

January 4 – 1,178

January 11 – 1,176

January 18 – 1,182

January 25 – 1,434

February 1 – 1,712
