The man police say killed his wife and caused an overnight standoff shot himself Wednesday afternoon, according to officers.
According to Tulsa Police Sergeant, Dave Walker, officers responded to the parking lot of the Walmart on Admiral Boulevard where they found a vehicle connected 52-year-old Derrick Todd.
Walker said officers broke out windows to determine if Todd was inside and when there was no response, Walker said officers moved toward the vehicle and found Todd with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Todd was alive when police found him and EMSA took him to a hospital.
Walker said officers recovered a .40 caliber handgun from the car.
Police said the situation started around 5:30 Tuesday evening when Todd texted several acquaintances that he shot his wife, Tonia Todd. The acquaintances included an off-duty Tulsa police officer and a retired Tulsa police officer.

Police then went to Todd’s home where a standoff lasted until 3 a.m. Police said they fired pepper spray and gas into the home and found Tonia Todd dead from a gunshot wound, but Derrick was gone.
Walker said evidence gathered at the home indicate Tonia Todd was killed with a .40 caliber handgun. He also said they are confident the suspect and suspect vehicle connected to the murder are accounted for.
He said investigators will continue to gather evidence but do not believe there will be any new developments.
