Alan Crone's Weather Blog: Great Fall Weather Ahead

The front that brought the strong to severe storms across the area yesterday is well east and southeast of the state this morning.   We're in store for some nice fall weather for the next few days.   Another storm system will be nearing the area for the middle of next week.   Temperatures will remain near and below the seasonal average for the next few days including the potential for a light freeze Sunday morning. 

Mostly clear and cool conditions are noted this morning across the state.   Temperatures should drop into the upper 40s and lower 50s across northern OK with northeast winds at 10 to 12 mph for the day.   Afternoon highs in the lower 60s will be likely across northern OK with slightly warmer temperatures across southeastern and eastern OK.   Friday night football games will be quite chilly.   Grab the jackets and coats.

The upper air flow will bring another trough across the central and southern plains later this weekend.   A cold front will slide southward and should cross the state early Saturday morning.   This will bring a reinforcing shot of cool air to the state.   A few clouds will be possible pre-dawn Saturday but no precipitation will occur with this frontal passage.   The north breezes around 10 mph will keep the temperatures up into the upper 30s and lower 40s Saturday morning.   Saturday highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s will be expected with mostly sunny and pleasant conditions. 

Later Saturday night into Sunday morning a surface ridge of high pressure will move directly over northern OK and southeastern Kansas.   Relatively dry air, light winds, and clear sky should allow temperatures to drop to near freezing across part of the region.   Some locations north of the metro will more than likely see freezing temperatures for a few hours while the metro stays around 34 to 36.   A light frost may be possible. 

Sunday afternoon into early next week the pattern will quickly change allowing south winds to return across the state.   The pressure gradient is expected to increase rapidly with strong south winds developing Monday and Tuesday.   Wind speeds from 20 to 35 mph will be possible Tuesday before the next storm system moves into the state Wednesday into early Thursday.

At this point, there will remain some differences in the model data regarding the Wednesday and Thursday periods, but we’ll keep a chance for some shower and storms Wednesday.
