In the day ahead, the new superintendent of Tulsa Public Schools will officially take over.
Before that, Tuesday, Dr. Deborah Gist delivered the keynote speech at the Tulsa Regional Chamber's annual State of Education luncheon.
Gist laid out her goals and priorities for the future of TPS; among them was a focus on early literacy and math as well as improving the district's graduation rate.
She said heading up Tulsa Public Schools is an opportunity she's prepared for her entire life.
"It's the perfect combination of work that I love, and work that matters really, really deeply for all of us, in a city that I absolutely adore," Gist said.
The Chamber also honored retiring superintendent Dr. Keith Ballard with its Lifetime Achievement in Education Award.
