First Responders Gather To Pay Tribute To Fallen Claremore Firefighter

A memorial service was held Saturday for Claremore Fire Captain Jason Farley who died after being swept away during a water rescue last week.

Firefighters, law enforcement officers and other emergency responders from across the state and Texas gathered to pay their respects to the fallen firefighter. The procession line-up began at 11 a.m. starting at the Ne-Mar Shopping Center at 1000 West Will Rogers Boulevard and went through the center of town to the Claremore Expo Center for the service.

Farley fell into a flooded drain pipe while helping a family stranded in the high water. He left behind a wife and daughter when he died in the line of duty. Farley was a 19-year veteran of the Claremore Fire Department.

Firefighter Zane James was injured trying to save Farley. He was also pulled into the drainage pipe and was hospitalized for his injuries. James was released in time to take part in the procession and service.

Tulsa firefighters manned the Claremore stations so their brothers could attend the memorial service.

Tulsa Fire Captain Stan May said they are providing mutual aid.

"We're expecting a lot of firefighters today," May said Saturday morning.

"He gave his life saving little children," he said of Farley. "They need to remember him as a hero."

Overflow sights were set up at the Claremore Assembly of God Church, 2100 West Blue Star, and the First United Methodist Church at 1616 North Highway 88 for the public to participate in the service.

A GoFund Me has been set up for the family. Donations are also being accepted at Fire Station No. 1 in Claremore.
